Matara District Women’s Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MDWCCI) came in to operations in 1999 as the “Entrepreneurs Assistance Center’’ with 68 women entrepreneurs in Matara District. It was registered as district organization in 2002 then converted in to a trade chamber as Matara District Women’s Chamber of Commerce Industry under the Companies Act no 17th of 1982.

The chamber has taken initiative to promote women entrepreneurs in the region providing funding support, technology transfer and other business development services. The Micro Credit for Women Entrepreneur Development project is one of key service of the chamber. Also it was pioneering initiative of the Matara District Women’s Chamber. Funding partner of the project is USAID - Sri Lanka Geneva Global. Increase of membership and chamber income, develop linkages between several partners, create revolve fund is main out come of this project.Among the other regional women’s chambers in Sri Lanka Matara District Women’s Chamber is one of the leading women’s chamber. The Board of Directors and staff of the chamber work towards achieving its objective that enhance and develop the women entrepreneurs in the Matara district.

For the past few years one of the remarkable achievements of the Matara District Women’s Chamber is recognizing as the winner of the Best SME Development Project of FCCISL chamber competition 2008.

MDWCCI formed a family of dynamic women, for whom business is not just about profits, but lending a helping hand, sharing knowledge and building long term relationships.
